Hi! I’m Julie.
I am a UX Designer with a background in hospitality management.

Creating impactful and delightful experiences for people has always been an excitement of mine. In Portland, OR, my role as the Director of Hospitality for a prominent speciality coffee shop was focused on exactly that. One of my responsibilities was to observe and outline in detail exactly what an exceptional experience would be for different types of customers from the moment they came in the door until the moment they left, and create staff-wide training to be able to execute this experience in a fast-paced and changing environment. I had a blast doing it. My emphasis during my time in the speciality food and beverage industry was on crafting an experience that transformed the potentially overlooked desire to "get a coffee" into an unforgettable experience that was consistent and repeatable. These skills translate well into product development, finding the most efficient, intuitive, and delightful user-centric experience someone can have with your product, and meticulously paying attention to how it can evolve as new needs and desires develop.

Human driven data. People, their stories, their pain points, and their frustrations are what drives my design decision making. I aim to come into designing a product actively checking my bias and assumptions at the door, listen to what people are saying, and design accordingly.
Accessibility. I believe that inclusivity, diversity, and empathy are key to great design experiences. Accessibility is a non negotiable for me, and I will actively seek out a broad range of perspectives when speaking to users to uncover all needs, problems, and goals people have when interacting with a product.
Humility. I want feedback and to change designs when presented with new information or a new perspective. My goal in design to find the overlap between business and user needs, and I am not afraid to find out I was wrong or missing something in an area and redesign it. I value learning from my mistakes and continually doing better.
Doing good. Nothing inspires me more than when I am designing for a product that is making somebody's life better, easier, and more beautiful. I believe that by creating products with that goal in mind, the world will become a better place.

You can find me at a farmers market, cooking delicious things in my kitchen, having friends over to share a meal over some natural wine and good music, making homemade ice cream or sourdough bread, and being outside in any capacity with my two kids.
